Case study TWO

An integrated solution

The client:
A North West-based Builders Merchants & Haulage business

The problem:
A vulnerable yard filled at night with enormous amounts of stock & plant hire equipment, a fleet of vehicles and large amounts of diesel fuel.

Their Managing Director explains:
“Traditionally the company employed a guarding company a total of 102 hours a week, to cover the site.  This was fairly effective but extremely expensive.  The introduction of new employment legislation resulted in us being told that their hourly rate was to increase, which caused us to re-think our strategy.

The obvious solution was CCTV but our initial assessment was that this would not be as effective as having a manned presence on site.  Catching people on camera would be no consolation for the fact that a theft had occurred.

Then, we were introduced to Crime Prevention Services and learned about their Sitewatch system”

The solution:
We designed & installed a Sitewatch integrated system for this customer comprising a series of internal and external cameras and alarm detectors.  We integrated it with a new intruder alarm system protecting his various buildings as part of an initiative to bring his security up to comply with current police regulations

Sitewatch products in action

The site had out-of-hours activity with drivers arriving back late and setting off early so the gates were automated and drivers given a facility for remote control gate operating.
The site was also judged to be highly vulnerable from stock loss whilst open for trading and the CCTV cameras additionally were networked so that they provided a source of video information & site supervision to management.

Their Managing Director continues:
“Within days we came to realise we had corrupt staff.  We had been worried only about the obvious security threat of when the business was closed.  The threat from within was greater and the system gave us the evidence we needed to tackle the problem successfully.

The Sitewatch system gives us tremendous peace of mind and we have great confidence in it.  The Operators at CPS’s monitoring centre are excellent; always helpful, attentive and obliging.

In the year or so since installation, there have been several occasions when trespassers have been discovered within the yard and successfully scared off.  We also had a man caught whilst attempting to steal diesel fuel from our tank.

It has saved us a lot of money and is far more effective than employing security guards.”
