Case study FOUR

Case study:  A residential example

Overview:
Our residential market sector focuses on those who want a job well done.  Our customers are those who demand value for money complete with a system designed to provide the correct level of protection.  Our aim is to deliver peace of mind and an environment where the security of the home and the safety of its occupants are paramount.

The client:
A “high net worth” homeowner (Mr “X”), selected to illustrate the extent of security provision some risks justify.

Mr “X” explains:
“After a spate of worrying crimes occurring in our neighbourhood I became anxious that we upgraded our security system so that it incorporated a more appropriate level of protection for my home and family.  We took advantage of the “secure by design” service Crime Prevention offer and set out to design a bespoke solution I felt happy would address all of my concerns.”

The risk:
A large, high value property set in private grounds and vulnerable through privacy, perceived value of content and the local profile of its residents.

The solution overview:
(Note that descriptions as defined below deliberately exclude some critical details.)

Our prescribed solution involved a system interlinked to our Alarm Receiving Centre (“ARC”). The property itself has had a conventional intruder alarm system (IAS) fitted.  Intruder motion sensors protect throughout the interiors of the house and outbuildings.  Perimeter sensors protect doors and windows.  Additionally, a series of panic alarm devices have been installed. The system can be set/unset as a whole or it can be partially operated departmentally.  Upon activation, a voice module immediately links to the ARC so that we listen in &/or conduct dialogue with occupants, to an agreed process.

The grounds of the property are under continuous supervision by CCTV cameras linked to recording equipment and to the ARC and each field of view is protected by alarm detection.
When the system is fully set and the property is unoccupied (& at other nominated times), any activation of external CCTV cameras signals to our ARC so that we visually supervise activity and assess what response to instigate.

Access to the grounds of the property is via heavy duty motorised gates, incorporating video phone communication.  Operation of these involves a secure process and the householder nominates when they take operation and when, as an alternative, this is performed through the ARC.

Signalling from the property to our ARC is very secure and is continuously monitored against attack or disablement.
Very specific procedures for alerting, security signalling and ARC response are in place, particularly relating to manually operated alarms and duress situations.

Mr “X” continues:
“I am happy we have addressed all reasonably foreseeable risks and my wife takes great comfort from the way the monitoring centre is always on call and available to us.  We had been unsettled by the experiences of some of our neighbours but the proactive security of our system, combining technology with manned supervision when needed, has given us great re-assurance.
We have complete privacy from them except when we instigate otherwise and the various systems are convenient to use and easy to administer.

Who knows what the future holds but I do feel we have done our best to deter people from picking on us but also have extensive contingency plans in place should we be unlucky!”
